Emily Padgett, M.A.

Emily E. Padgett, M.A., is a Doctoral Student Clinician from Northern Illinois University’s Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program with an emphasis on working with children and families. Ms. Padgett received her B.S. in Psychology and Spanish from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. She has enjoyed her experience working with clients presenting with various clinical concerns including anxiety, emotion regulation difficulties, disruptive behavior problems, autism spectrum disorder, and depression. She also conducts comprehensive psychosocial assessments of children with the same presenting problems described above. Her clinical practicum experiences include conducting individual therapy and psychosocial assessments of clients in all stages of life at the Psychological Services Center at NIU; providing exposure-based therapeutic intervention and leading a classroom of children with selective mutism at an intensive therapeutic camp; conducting cognitive, academic, and autism spectrum disorder assessments of children within Joliet Public Schools District #86; and, most recently conducting comprehensive psychosocial assessments and multidisciplinary assessments with a team of healthcare professionals at Florissa Pediatric Development Center in Dixon, Illinois. Ms. Padgett also has extensive experience leading anxiety-based and social skills groups with children and adolescents.

It is Ms. Padgett’s mission to utilize empirically-supported assessment and treatment approaches with children and adolescents, regardless of their presenting problem. She has utilized cognitive-behavioral therapy, parent management training, social skills training, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Ms. Padgett is passionate about working collaboratively with children, adolescents, and their families, and she is thrilled to have to opportunity to provide these services as an extern at Susan Myket, Ph.D. & Associates. To her, there is nothing more rewarding than facilitating a family’s ability to understand something new about their child through an assessment or helping a child become more successful through treatment. She will strive to develop the best plan for treatment and assessment based on clients’ individual needs.

Ms. Padgett is currently developing her doctoral dissertation. She envisions examining the effectiveness of an online, behavioral intervention for parents of children with various presenting problems. She is actively involved in research concerning family dynamics and contextual factors that influence children and families. In her free time she enjoys adventuring with her husband and dog, baking, and reading.
