What is a Pediatric Psychologist? A pediatric psychologist is concerned with physical health and illness in children and the relationship between psychological/behavioral factors and health, illness and disease.
Dr. Janet Patton has specialized training in the area pediatric psychology and brings this area of expertise to the practice. She has worked in some of the top 25 children's hospitals in America, including Yale Children's Hospital and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. She has expertise in working collaboratively with primary care and specialty physicians addressing emotional, behavioral and developmental issues within pediatric patient populations including:
- Problems related to pediatric conditions
- Psychosomatic illness
- Adjustment to disease
- Adherence/Compliance issues
- Coping with procedural pain
- Pain management of recurring/chronic pain
- Mental health problems in conjunction with medical illness
- Behavior problems
- Bereavement (Death and Dying issues)
- Parent/Sibling support
- Reintegration into school after hospitalization
